Psalm 27:8-9
The ultimate expression of rejection from someone you love would be if they turned away, unable to look you in the eye any longer. It would be a dark day if my wife could no longer look me in the eye and give me her reassuring smile that says she accepts me. No words can replace the special look that she has that tells me she loves me. She doesn't have to do anything to convince me. All I need is to see it in her face. That is what we all need really. It is nice to have your spouse do something nice for you - make a special meal, send flowers just because, give a lavish gift out of the blue - these are expressions from the hands. What is most important, valuable and lasting are expressions of love and devotion that come from the heart. What endears my wife to me more are the kind words I speak to her, the moments of holding her hand while walking through the store together, the phone call during her day just to say I was thinking about you. I haven't actually asked her, but I am suspicious that if she had to choose between those or a diamond ring, I think she would opt for the things from the heart.
What do you seek after? Are you seeking after the work of His hands - things He can do for you - or are you simply seeking His face? Go for the latter. When it's all said and done, all I really need is to look into His face and see His reassuring glance that He loves me with an everlasting love. Seeking after His hands is merely seeking His applause, and that really belongs only to Him. That's what we should be doing - offering our applause to Him for who He is. We need to seek His face. Applause is short-lived, but love is forever. I love the old song that says, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."
Today, seek the face of God. Let your worship be motivated by who he is, not just by the things he has done for you. Look into his face and let everything else fade away into the background.
